Tomboy:
-noun
an energetic, sometimes boisterous girl whose behavior and pursuits, especially in games and sports, are considered more typical of boys than of girls.
Think about this: if you can not make a case of me fitting the bill on this definition, please let me know - cause you're not invited to the wedding.
At the day-after-Christmas dinner in the Gutzler household, the question "what is a tomboy really?" was asked. When I decided on the name for this blog, I thought about the "stereotypical bride" - a stressed-out girl that has to have everything PERFECT for THE BIG DAY; a girl that has lists of pictures she wants the photographer to take, the Cinderella poof of a gown, stringent requirements for the attire of not only the wedding party but the guests as well. All in all, someone who has expectations of perfection and will do anything to have those expectations met.
Is there anything wrong with this "stereotypical bride" in my head? No, definitely not. I understand the desire for all of those things, but it's just not me. When I have been asked things like "long or short bridesmaids dresses?" The response has been, "Um, long? I don't care, whatever looks nice, fits well, is comfortable, and is not hideous." "Where are you two going for the honeymoon?" "Uh, I don't know...whereever Bryan wants." And lastly, our colors are Packer colors for-crying-out-loud. I definitely think the word Tomboy describes me as a bride to the T. One idea I had even thrown out to Bryan was to try to have some sort of gambling going on during the wedding...poker tables, anyone?? Or integrating the names of NFL teams to distinguish the tables (as opposed to Table 1, Table 2 it'd be Buffalo Bills, Atlanta Falcons, etc.). And yes, I have even considered getting real cheesesteaks flown in from Philadelphia. Do I consider myself a girly-girl? In a word: No. Am I offended if people consider me ultra-girly? No, especially since the ideas I have for my dress are as feminine as they get. But if there was any uncertainty on what I really meant by calling myself a Tomboy, I hope I've cleared it up.
Moving along, I am excited to say that the six lovely ladies that will be in our wedding have all been asked at this point. Let the Bachelorette Party Planning begin! (Just kidding, ladies...we've got a few months yet). Bryan is moving significantly more slowly on this assignment, but he's getting there. We have our work cut-out for us as we return to Atlanta following a great Christmas. Bridal Expos, photographer appointments, and dress shopping! We are hoping to have the Save-the-Dates mailed out by some point in February - a task that I am looking forward to completing while watching The Bachelor (when it returns to ABC this winter!) and drinking copious amounts of wine (while staring at our insanely large guest list). In order to counter the upcoming increase in my alcohol intake, I will be on a strict (but, unofficial) Bridal Boot-Camp schedule.
As I wrap this up, don't forget to check us out over on The Knot and, as always, any suggestions/comments/concerns are definitely helpful (at this time, we'd love advice regarding photographers!), so please share your thoughts. And if anyone has any cute signature cocktail drink ideas, we'd love to hear those as well!
I'm so honored to not only be your wedding planner but also your bridesmaid and friend. :-) Anxious for all of the beautiful non-tomboy festivities :-)
