I begged Bryan to let me take a few minutes before we watch District 9 to blog about our experience at the Macy's Sip N Scan Bridal Registry event tonight. There are a two major things to cover:
First, something extremely important happened this week. Some lovely person purchased 2 of our fine china place settings off of our Bed Bath and Beyond registry (or 2 people purchased 1 setting each around the same time that my Mom noticed?). Either way, this is incredible! My fine china collection, something I have been waiting to have since I was a little girl, has officially begun! (I actually went over to visit the setting on display in Macy's tonight...it makes me absolutely giddy.) So whoever you are, know that your gift is already SO appreciated!!! I am so excited!
Tonight the strategy was to distract Bryan with alcoholic beverages and hors d'oeuvres provided by Macy's while I hijacked the scanner and selected our everyday plates, a frame for our wedding picture/invitation, a silverware chest, and other things. Turns out the beverages were non-alcoholic...I'm not sure why. Don't they know this whole registry deal is very stressful!? But the hors d'oeuvres were absolutely excellent. So we started off kind of slow...since I was holding a massive plate filled with food...hehehe. One of the first things Bryan wanted to do was select bedroom sets. If you've been over to our place, you know that we do not have a comforter/sheet set in EITHER bedroom. I don't know how this has happened. I started out with one years ago and once I moved in with Bryan, I don't know if he vetoed my set or what but it's nowhere to be found. So we have 2 mismatched sets. This is NOT ok anymore since we're hoping to grow up and have adult things. We had looked at BBB and liked some, but ultimately decided to hold out for Macy's. Tonight there were 2 finalists at Macy's that I was ready to select when Bryan said, "Well, let's not make a decision now. Let's look again at BBB." Grrrr.
Onto the bathrooms. Bryan does not want anything for "his" bathroom. Or as I call it, "The Man's Bathroom" or "The Poopy Room". Lucky for everyone reading, this is also "The Guest Bathroom." Ironically, Bryan tends to keep The Man's Bathroom cleaner than our Master!
It is important to me to outfit the master/upstairs bathroom accordingly. So I knew I wanted to select a set of bathroom accessories, a shower curtain, and bathroom towels. Bryan did not like any of the shower curtains I picked until I finally gave up. Towels? This was easy, my current obsession is Hunter Green and Bryan likes anything green. The bathroom accessories were also an obvious choice for me as I fell in love with an ivory set with gold accents.
Finally, we got random. We had discussed luggage from a strategic viewpoint. Bryan and I always run into the same problems when we travel together. We either a.) both pack MASSIVE bags (inconvenient), b.) try to fit everything into one MASSIVE bag (which is a sure-fire way to pay $90 for being over the weigh limit), or c.) try to fit most stuff in a massive bag and some other stuff into a carry-on - this usually ends with us at the check-in counter trying to take 4 pounds of clothing out of the massive bag and transferring it into the carry-on with much force (embarrassing). Bryan had invested in a blue Samsonite suitcase when he got a great deal one Black Friday. So we registered to complete the set. I'm pretty excited about it, and it's on-sale now (hint, hint). From luggage we went over to fine china where I stared at my place settings then for some reason, we started playing with silverware (with Bryan getting distracted by collapsing colanders along the way).
I don't know why, but we fell in love with silverware tonight leading to us switching from our original choice (at BBB) (and we selected a different design from the same brand...weird, eh?). I didn't think I'd ever find silverware that made me feel this way, but I did!!! I can actually picture polishing it with my future daughter(s) and placing it in the beautiful Reed & Barton chest we registered for!!!
We ended up selecting many beautiful things, but ultimately I STILL feel like we have a long way to go. We still have nothing for our bedrooms, everyday glassware (Bryan is content with our Sweetwater glasses), and bar accessories (I would like a shaker. Hello, Martinis!!!). Oh, and I need a shower curtain. It makes me tired just thinking about it. Macy's actually gives you estimates of how many gifts you should register for. The numbers look astronimcal to me. How can we possibly need that much stuff???? And I totally get it now. We actually do!
I'm off to take an inventory of my bakeware, think about what kind of table linens would be appropriate, watch District 9, and get some well-deserved rest...until tomorrow when I'm back to work on all of the things I'm supposed to have done by this point. Just when you think you have it all under control....Zzzzzzz.....
