Unfortunately, after returning to Atlanta, I developed a horrible cold. I'd like to think it was brought on by Jake picking Vienna (because, frankly, it just makes me sick) but more than likely it was due to the massive lack of sleep the entire weekend I was home. (How is a girl supposed to sleep when she's in the midst of such an incredible time??)
Anyways, I figured my readers would be developing a severe case of withdrawal since I hadn't blogged in 48 hours or so. And since the first phase of my Philadelphia-run-around is complete, I thought I would do us all a favor and provide cyberspace with some of my random thoughts (some of which are, of course, wedding-related).
1.) I MISS MY WEDDING DRESS! Desperately. I dream about my dress, my dress randomly creeps into my mind when I should be focusing on other tasks. And due to the vow of silence I've taken to the M.O.B. (my Mom, the Mother of the Bride), I can't even satisfy my need for the dress in conversation! Oh, the humanity!!! I also can't seem to find a picture of it online which has led me to two conclusions: a.) the dress doesn't actually exist and the whole day was a figment of my imagination - in which case, I need to design the dress myself; and b.) the M.O.B. immediately contacted the designer of the dress and requested all photos of it be pulled from the viewing public.
2.) What does a person read about once she no longer depends on the wonderful world of Bridal Magazines? There was a time when I read actual books, but that ended in early November. Since then it's been all wedding magazines, planners, and websites all the time. Now that we've taken care of the flowers, the photographers, the dresses (B.M. and mine!), the food, the Save-the-Dates and the cake (in design, at least), what is left?
Oh wait a second, that's right. The invitations, my hair!, signature cocktails, the honeymoon...ok, silly me. I still DO need the world of Bridal Magazines! Thank Heavens for that...to-do list for tomorrow: Get the Spring edition of The Knot magazine. I know what I'm doing this weekend!
3.) Just a note on hotel accomodations to those who are traveling to our wedding from out-of-town. This weekend is another jam-packed, exciting weekend for us (I'm teaching 11:30-4 Saturday, family dinner with The Atlanta-based Hoeys on Saturday night, then Sunday is the lovely Megan Greene's Bridal Shower). That being said, next weekend (the 13th-14th) should open up some time for Bryan and I to check out the hotels affiliated with the Payne-Corley House. When I say "affiliated" I mean the ones who provide a shuttle service to get your drunk butts back to the hotel from the wedding. And I say that in the nicest way possible cause, well, you know it's true! (and I'll be sitting next to you on the Shuttle).
As soon as we reserve a block at a Payne-Corley House-approved hotel, the details will be shared here and on our wedding website: www.theknot.com/ourwedding/BryanHoey&StephanieGutzler2010
4.) My final random thought of the day has to do with figuring out that "the broiler" in an oven is on the top. How has no one ever shared this information with me?? I found this out via Google when I was looking up recipes for the Academy Award-night meal Bryan and I will chow down on Sunday night. It would've been a trip to try to cook Bison Burgers on the bottom rack, I'm glad I thought to look this up! Is it sad I've never broiled a thing in my life? Well, I guess there's a first time for everything. The recipe, you're probably wondering, will be Bison Burgers with Cabernet Onions and Wisconsin Cheddar. I'll be making my famous Sweet Potato Fries to serve on the side. I usually try to theme the meal based on my pick for Best Picture (last year's Slumdog Millionaire resulted in us eating an amazing Indian-based lamb vindaloo). This year I am rooting for The Hurt Locker and rather than trying to figure out what the heck Iraqi food is, I decided since the movie is based on the U.S. military to cook up a truly American meal. And what's more American than burgers and fries?!!
On an Oscar note, I'm contemplating writing a running Oscar blog on Sunday night. This is something I did a few years back on MySpace and people seemed to think was funny. But it might turn into a blog of the Supporting Actor/Actress Awards which are given at the beginning then a whole lot of "What a shocker, 'Avatar' won for Best Sound Editing" "'Avatar' won for Best Cinematography" "'Avatar' won for Best Special Effects" and the list goes on. All I want to see is that it doesn't win the Big Two it's nominated for: Best Director and Best Picture. I'll comment more on this on Sunday night as this is not the official Oscar blog quite yet.
For now, I'm going to continue to nurse this cold with the assistance of the Kardashian sisters who are providing today's entertainment, my fiance (I've only got 7 1/2 more months to say that) who has been willing to cook, clean, and make sure I don't have to lift a finger and of course, our puppy Maggie who is providing me with lots of face-licks to make me feel better.
I'm dying laughing right now! Why would the broiler be on the bottom of an oven? I've never had something broiled where the bottoms were all toasty and broiled-it's always the top of the food....therefore, the top of the oven. Anyway, I'm not making fun...it's like the time I realized that there really are two "r"s in February...why it's not Febuary, I have no idea. But it took me a long time to realize this and this is even my birthday month! :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know why the broiler would be on the bottom of the oven! I literally have NEVER thought about this topic in my life. Maybe I just thought Broiler begins with a B and bottom begins with a B? To be honest, I can't even think of the last broiled thing I ate anywhere - let alone took enough notice at the fact that the top was toasty and not the bottom! This all makes alot more sense now because I know I had tried to use it before and ended up with severely undercooked food (I blamed it on the temperature!). I'm certainly glad I looked this up today, it makes me feel like I did do something productive other than just blog! :-)
