I'm not going to tell you about the conversation or the details surrounding this occurrence because honestly, I don't think it's worth it. I don't even want to dignify this person's actions by discussing them openly. If she's got anything else to say to me, she knows where to reach me. But I was given the news yesterday that Bridesmaid Lindsay (that lives in Atlanta) will not be with us for our wedding celebration due to a conflict of schedule. If it sounds like a bad reason, that's because it is. And that's all I've got to say. I'm trying to be as classy as possible, but it's really hard.
So yesterday at approximately 12:30pm when I received this news upon ordering lunch, I was down another bridesmaid. I started to wonder about two things: 1.) am I not meant to have someone named Lindsay in this wedding? (although Bridesmaid Mrs. Smith's reason - um, giving birth!!! - is a better excuse than just plain being busy); and 2.) should I write a book called 'How to Lose a Bridesmaid in 10 days'? Maybe that can be the name of my novel :-)
On to fun wedding stuff: We have an officiant!!!! The minister who married our dear friends Mary Beth and Bob almost 11 years ago this October will be marrying Bryan and I this October! We spoke with her yesterday morning and she is wonderful. I'm sure she will do a great job and that we're in good hands with her.
After a day that included making progress in securing our officiant, losing a bridesmaid, and working, Bryan took me out for a fun night on the town with Will and Meredith. We dined at a restaurant that is in contention for possibly catering our rehearsal dinner - well, it was in contention. The restaurant at which we ate last Sunday, Bi Ba's, is clearly the winner. Come hungry, and prepare for deliciousness.
A few glasses of wine at dinner and karaoke night at a local bar = Great times and lots of laughs. It was just what I needed. We ended the evening out at Pub 71 where we got the surprise of running into some of our nearest and dearest. Awesome evening. Not awesome? Waking up with my contacts in and being told by Bryan I had eaten a whole lasagna. That can't even be close to true, but he's been saying it all day long and laughing. I've been scared to eat all day based on the thought of consuming that quantity of food alone (this thing was the size of a large paperback book - Man Vs. Food-style).
It's funny because after Lindsay went rogue on me yesterday, the first question I was asked by the few people I talked to was: "Do you have a replacement?" I'm weirded out by the concept of replacing a person, I don't think you can do it. I knew I would never be able to replace Bridesmaid Mrs. Smith when she told me she was due right around the wedding, so I didn't even try. She remained a Bridesmaid (and has done an incredible job every step of the way) and will be with me in spirit - irreplaceable. However, with the events of yesterday there was a dress that had already been purchased and I realized that asking Lindsay in the first place was my mistake. I have so many people around me that are amazing friends to me and I was upset at myself for not asking one person in particular to begin with (I am so weird about bridal parties getting too big - I wanted small, small, small)!
So I am happy to say that after getting over the idea of asking someone to be a "replacement" (it just sounds awkward!), I talked to the lovely Megan today and she is now Bridesmaid Megan!!! Megan's reaction alone (excited clapping, a "yay!!!!" and a big hug) was all I needed to know that my Mom was right yesterday, everything does happen for a reason.
We are 2 months and 14 days from the big day, so my job tonight is to finish assembling invitations and hopefully getting everything ready for a mail day of Tuesday or Wednesday. My floral appointment with Abby to check out my bouquet and centerpieces is coming up on Wednesday as well, so we have a hectic week ahead of us again (complete with juggling both jobs and the crazy commutes that go with them). But I will do my best to blog on Wednesday to let you all know whether the invitations are in the mail and of course how happy I am with the flowers. Enjoy a relaxing Sunday evening!!
