Crunch Time

We are definitely getting into crunch time over here and Chez Hoey/Soon-to-be-Hoey. I'm starting to make my lists and check 'em twice. It's the fun stuff, though. Now I have to get the table cards ready (which I started preparing months ago), the place cards printed, the favors ordered, and oh yeah, Bryan and I have to make sure we really wanna marry each other after all (pre-marital workshop next weekend!) :-)

I have some really fun things coming up: 1.) I get to buy another new dress - I've been waiting for this one for a while! My rehearsal dinner dress! Now, granted, our rehearsal isn't overly formal - but I do love dresses. Plus, I can wear it again (we've got Rob and Christine's wedding coming up in December!). 2.) My final dress fitting is in 12 short days. I am stoked. I actually haven't even been thinking about my birthday as much this year because of all this wedding madness. I will be in Philadelphia for my birthday which should be a good time (it always is!). Cheesesteaks for everyone! 3.) Bridesmaid gifts/jewelry - Believe it or not, this has been one of the hardest things for me to pull the trigger on. I do want to spoil my Bridesmaids silly after all the hard work they've put in in the past 10 months (as well as listening to me carry on about what I NEED for the wedding, all the appointments, work on the Save the Dates, invitations, etc.). I don't think there's any jewelry within my price range that can appropriately thank them, but I'm gonna give it my best shot. I've seen some pretty things, but nothing that's knocked my socks off - until I talked to my talented friend, Dr. Stacie Lin-Taylor and I think she's come up with the perfect pieces for my ladies. I will plug the heck out of her website post-wedding, but for now the details are still under wraps. :-)

I think Bridesmaid Mrs. Smith and I have perfected the wedding programs, but now the draft has to go through the M.O.H. before I officially order. Based on where we are right now with a count, I'm ordering the programs and favors based on predictions. I've got less than 6 weeks, people, if you haven't sent your RSVP in, please do so immediately!

A few other comments: I didn't put a dress code on our invitation or on our website, but I have gotten a few questions about this. I'd call our dress code: "formal, but not black tie", if that makes sense. This basically means if you wear jeans to our wedding, my head will explode. I may actually ask you to go down the street and buy some slacks, no joke. I've done this to kids in the lab that wear sandals into class and have said, "Go buy close-toed shoes and bring them every week" - no joke. That being said, you don't have to wear a ball gown or tuxedo. But appropriate dress is important to me (I'll be looking at these pictures forever!). I'm not too worried about this given our guest list as everyone that's attending so far is ultra-classy, but like I said, I've gotten a few questions on this. So just clarifying. I want everyone to be comfortable and have a good time, overall, that is what's most important to me.

The weather in Georgia has been nothing short of stunning this past week. I am praying to the high Heavens that we get an evening like the one we had last night on October 15th (maybe a tad cooler during the day). It was absolutely beautiful and the perfect night for a drive-in movie (which is exactly where we went!).

It has been a great Labor Day weekend so far. We went to the Decatur Book Festival, ran errands yesterday, saw 2 movies last night and grilled out. I've got a few things I want to work on today for the wedding, but I will say I've got a new respect for people that work 2 jobs. I thought I had a hectic schedule when I was writing my dissertation and tutoring. Now that I actually go into work 40 hours a week then tutor, plus commuting...just, wow. Did my Mom ever earn those holidays! I actually feel guilty (yes, almost 10 years since I've lived at home and the guilt has finally hit me) for watching my Mom work 2 jobs at different points throughout my life (a few years when I was young, in high school, and some in college) then come home to cook and clean (although my Dad was a champ at helping out as well! Dad turned into something of a chef in the past 10 years or so - and is a newly minted Advanced Green Belt in Karate - so don't mess with him! I mention this because I'm very proud that my Dad can beat most of us up.) It's nice to know that while my parents still work hard, they have time to invest in hobbies that they really enjoy. Bryan actually has been helping me out a lot since I've been working so much, it's been really great and makes our time together all the more relaxing.

That being said, it is time for some breakfast - I'm cooking this morning! We've also been dog-sitting for Jon and Sonia (they're in Aruba for Sonia's 30th/Jon's 30th (in October)/their 1st Anniversary!!!) so Maggie is playtime heaven with Myko. Speaking of Jon's 30th, it is on October 14th. On Wednesday, October 13th, there will be a shindig for him at Pub 71 in Brookhaven. If you are coming into town on Wednesday, I will have details for you in your welcome bag regarding where and when most of the wedding party will be celebrating this event, so stay tuned! Until next time, Happy Labor Day, everyone!!!
