The Mothership of the Ring

The weekend is ending the way all weekends should end - with me successfully gambling on football. It's been an extremely wedding-productive weekend and I have a very special detail to share, so let's get to the run-down!

Friday morning, Bryan and I went to get our marriage license in Gwinnett County. I am stunned I had the energy for this given the fact I had slept a whole two hours (or so it felt like!). But it was fun and exciting to get the Marriage License, so we are all set on that end until The Big Day.

Shortly thereafter, Bryan headed to Helen, GA with his brother for Bachelor Party weekend and I was on the move. First stop, Bradley T. Harris, jeweler extraordinaire. Bryan had my wedding band made by Mr. Harris as he came highly recommended by our good friends Will and Meredith. I made another visit because I needed to get my very precious "something old" sized. So here is the story on this:

The ring I will be wearing on my right hand on our wedding day originally belonged to my great-grandmother. On my grandmother's 21st birthday, her mother gave her this ring. On my mother's 21st birthday, she was given the ring. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away when I was about 5 years old and my mother couldn't bear to part with the ring on my 21st. The M.O.B. was also nervous about the fact that I, at 21, wasn't the best caretaker of jewelry (I'd never had anything particularly valuable to that point). Ironically, my parents bought me a sapphire ring for my 21st which, to this day, I still wear - so I did manage to take care of my first significant piece of jewelry!

As I've gotten older, I've invested in more jewelry and of course, been given some beautiful pieces by Bryan and my parents. I also have a beautiful armoire that my parents gave me as a Christmas present where everything is stored. This makes it much easier to take care of everything. So finally, my mother was ready to give me the ring and did so last week for my 29th birthday! It's very special to me, and I'm honored to get to wear it on my wedding day.

After the busy morning, I went to work for our noon-time meeting and ended up finishing up preparations for the following week's labs. When I got home, I did exactly what I set out to do - took Maggie to PetSmart for her nail trim and then came home and gave her a bath. It was a really relaxing night - sushi for dinner, a face mask, and Jersey Shore. I was sleeping like a baby by 10:30pm (although I woke up with a start at 5:30am ready for my hair and make-up trial).

At 11:15am on Saturday, I walked into Mary Beth's salon ready to be beautified. Mary Beth hit it out of the park. My make-up was exactly the palette I was thinking for the wedding day and looked great (although I'm such a baby about fake eyelashes - this is going to be interesting). And my hair was outstanding! I think the style will go perfectly with my whole look and I'm really excited.

After hours of Mary Beth's expertise, I went down my to-do list. First of all, I'm happy to say I'm caught up on Thank You cards and headed to the post office to mail them!!! I'm so sorry if anyone feels like they are long overdue (I wanted to write/send them much sooner!), but I hope our gratitude is expressed in each of the cards. I also needed more stamps. I think I've used more stamps in the past year than I've used cumulatively in my entire life. I went searching for Ivory labels (you'll see why at the wedding) and came up short at Office Max (and Staples, today - what gives??!), headed to Michael's for stickers to "code" people's entrees with, arranged final payments for some of our vendors, checked out the proof of the programs, and went to the Mall. Ok, so this last stop was sort of a fun one for me.

This is what happens when Bryan's away:
Yes, there is a new dress in my life. I found the perfect dress for the rehearsal dinner and am so excited to wear it!!! I am especially hoping we get some cooler weather on our wedding weekend (minus the rain we got today, yuck!). I also found a pair of amazing earrings for the wedding. I don't know what I'm more excited about - the dress, the hair/make-up, or the jewelry. Gosh darn it, everything's just gonna look splendid!!! I may not get changed for days. Has anyone ever left for their honeymoon in their wedding dress? Can I do that??

Finally, today, I was fortunate to spend a little time with some of Bryan's friends from Buffalo that had flown in for his bachelor party. Afterwards, it was off to book club then over to Target (for more Ivory-label-searching). While I was at Target, I splurged on a few books I've been wanting to read for awhile with the intention that they will be my St. Lucia reads on the beach.

Anyways, that was our weekend. Bryan returned in one piece but has been couch-bound ever since. I have a few more things to do tonight - Father-of-the-Bride gift and Dad's birthday gift as well (he's 63 on Friday! And no, you'll never believe that when you see him). We've been slowly but surely getting the finishing touches as I've ordered them - my garter (you have to ask me about this at the wedding) and our unity candle (which came out amazing! Make sure you take a closer look at the wedding).

Next weekend, I'm off to get swimsuits, sunscreen, and officially doing some things I set out to do this weekend but didn't accomplish (table cards, anyone?!). Have a great week and I'll report back by Wednesday with some logistical info!!!
