I thought I was done b*tching about this, but let's get real, am I ever not gonna b*tch about something?
This morning (at a way-too-early hour for a Saturday), I judged the Regional Meeting for the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science. My Dad (the F.O.B. = father of the bride) judges every year. It's probably the meeting in which I realized I like talking to people about Science and presenting experimental data - yes, I was in 7th grade when I started doing them; yes, I realize I was a weird kid, lay off. I had done some judging in college and then when I would come up for Grandma's birthdays (the first week of March) through graduate school (until she passed a few years back). But it had been awhile since I had last judged. It was a lovely morning. Mrs. Bracconier, Mr. Conlon, and Bridesmaid Mrs. Smith of course always do an incredible job organizing the judges. And it's fun to get some bonding time with the F.O.B. (I think I may start calling him that!) :-)
Dad and I hustled back home to meet M.O.H. Nicole, Bridesmaid Melissa, and my Mom. The four of us ladies headed over to lunch at Bertucci's where Bridesmaid Mrs. Smith met up with us. Not having to try on any dresses today (and due to the fact that Georgia does not have Bertrucci's), I ate and ate and ate...right through our appointment time. About 1/2 hour after our scheduled appointment, we headed into David's Bridal - which is next door to Bertucci's.
Bear with me, this is why I didn't think it'd be a big deal that we were late due to the fact that: We already picked the dresses! We had 2 dresses the girls were going to try on. This was not Musical Dresses (like M.O.H. Nicole had to play all those weeks ago). She already did that work for everyone. All that needed to be done was: a.) print out my paperwork that gives the style numbers of the dresses b.) pull the dresses off the racks in the appropriate sizes, and c.) allow the girls to try them on. This took 15 minutes in the Gwinnett store in Georgia when we did this with Bridesmaids Lindsay G. and Tatum.
Bridesmaid Melissa had mentioned to me before we left for lunch that she was just not feeling great today. So to be honest, I wanted to throw the dresses on her and send her on her way since I didn't want this blog to be about "the time Melissa yakked on a bridesmaid dress in David's".
When we walked into David's, I was attended to right away although it took a few minutes for the first consultant to find me in the system because so many people have my last name and it's very confusing to determine whether the state code for Georgia is GE or GA (I am assuming all of my readers know it's GA, but I forgive you if you didn't - I wasn't waiting on you to figure this out with a sick bridesmaid in David's Bridal!).
Once the paperwork with the style numbers were printed out, we were told to wait for our consultant. So we waited...and waited...and waited...are we seeing a pattern with this David's?? Finally, Bridesmaid Mrs. Smith (who has experience working at David's) led us to start pulling the dresses off the rack. So we did. We got our own dresses. Now all we needed was a fitting room. Apparently this was an impossibility because we had to wait for a consultant. So I threw out the, "well, one of my bridesmaids might vomit in your store" card.
Here's a tip: If you're ever waiting for a consultant at David's Bridal and you just need a darn dressing room, tell them someone is gonna get sick.
Of course Bridesmaids Mrs. Smith and Melissa looked lovely in the dresses and you'll have to see on October 15th which they picked and what they look like. I think we were close to done when our "consultant" came back to consult with us. "Can I help you?" she asked. "No, we're good." "Well, what else do you need to do?" She asked me. What I really heard was: "Is there any possible way I can make commission off this sale?" "Nothing, we're finished," I answered. What I meant was: "You were no help; no commission for you!"
She followed us to the front of the store trying to get Mrs. Smith and Melissa's contact information from me. I told her I didn't know it. She appeared confused, which is probably how she spends most of her time...and we left.
The Atlanta-based bridesmaids and I will stick to the Gwinnett David's Bridal where we had the fabulous Monique as our consultant. And overall, I am happy with what everyone chose. We're almost set on dresses for the Big Day!! It's also taken me this long to realize that if my Dad is a F.O.B., my Mom is a M.O.B. Hahahaha.
I hope everyone has enjoyed the Philadelphia-weekend blogs! M.O.H. Nicole and I are headed back to Atlanta tomorrow, so there probably will not be this whole "blog-everyday-and-sometimes-twice-a-day" thing going on. It was fun while it lasted. I will post some of the dozen pictures or so my Mom took throughout the weekend (no dresses, though, sorry!). That's all for now in the land of the Snow!
