America's Next Top Models!!!

As intrigued as I am by Larry King discussing Sandra Bullock's husband's possible sex addiction (read: desperate attempt to stop Sandy from divorcing his dumb butt), I am I instead inspired to blog about yesterday's fantastic engagement session with our photographers Caroline and Matt. As I mentioned in my previous blog, I was making this an epic event. I worried for days about what I would wear for each of our three locations. On Monday, I made a mad dash through Express for some new cute pieces to wear and came up empty save for a pair of cute blue shorts that I couldn't figure out how to pair appropriately for pictures. Why? I didn't want to wear white, I thought it might blend into my pasty skin and wash me out. The cute beige cardigan, on the advice of Lindsay G. and Mrs. Smith, was a risk to have the same effect. Lindsay G. came over Monday afternoon to help calm my stressed-out self.

Once the wardrobe was set, I made my schedule for Tuesday morning: first thing in the morning I needed my nails done, then I was off to the Lancome counter in Dillard’s to get my make-up done, finally I’d arrive home around 12:15, curl my hair and head over to the park around 1pm to meet Caroline and Matt. It’s a tough life sometimes. This all sounds simple enough, but come Tuesday, despite running perfectly on time, things managed to get out of hand.

I was perfectly on schedule coming out of the nail salon. As I arrived at Dillard’s promptly at 11:15am (not my choice on the timing as I thought it was cutting it a little close, but that was what was available with “a woman who is the BEST; she does make-up over at CNN”! as told to me by another Lancome representative), I was surprised to find…absolutely no one at the make-up counter.

A guy about my age working over in the Men’s Department saw me milling about the Lancome counter and asked if I needed anything. “Yes, I have an appointment” I told him. He asked if I was looking for this particular lady (I’ll withhold the name so my outraged readers don’t head over to Dillard’s to harass her, haha). I told him I was and he informed me that she had texted him and told him she wasn’t coming in until 1pm. He called her and she asked to speak to me (I thought this was sweet, actually). She told me she could get to the store in an hour…”not gonna work,” I told her, “but thanks.”

It was a nice exchange, but I frantically went to Plan B: run around Perimeter Mall like a crazy woman looking for someone to do my make-up. Hurried, I texted Lindsay G. “I’m walking towards Bloomey’s, where should I go?” “Bobbi Brown,” she texted back.

The Lancome lady gets mad props for flaking because Diane at Bobbi Brown (in Bloomingdale’s at Perimeter Mall) NAILED this make-up. She even hid the Wii-related cut I inflicted on my nose playing Mario the night before!
And she was awesome and sweet. The best part? She didn’t push me to buy anything. There was no requirement to buy at Bobbi Brown (Lancome required a $40 purchase, leading me to ask Bryan the question:
“What if, after my make-up was done, I just bee-lined out of the store?? Is that considered shoplifting? You don’t technically have anything you can give back?? Would they sic security on me and apply witchhazel to my faceto get the make-up off as they held me down?”.
Bryan had no input on this except to tell me that he’d happily bail me out of jail if that’s where I ended up because it’d be a damn funny story.

Anyways, I left the Mall just slightly later than I had hoped but looking quite pretty if I do say so myself. And I probably will buy Bobbi Brown products for the rest of my life. I’m not kidding, this make-up was awesome – and stayed on the whole day despite being outside and running around! I hope the pictures reflect how incredible the make-up job was…oh, and of course, my love for Bryan…I hope it enhances my “in love” glow J

Ok, so after all this preparation I put the final touches on myself with a very fast encounter with hot rollers (and the fastest consumption of two slices of pizza ever seen before). We were off to location #1 – ½ hour late. I had explained the concept of Hoey Time to Caroline and Matt before (whenever you need us to be somewhere, tell us you need us ½ hour prior to the desired time) so they were gracious – and totally not surprised.

Anyways, our ½ hour delay allowed them to scope out our first location. One thing that’s so interesting. Bryan and I have been to our first location multiple times before and NEVER noticed the locations and the details about this place that Caroline and Matt did in the first half-hour they were there! We spent an hour and a half in this first spot – these locations have been revealed to a select few people, but come the “sneak peek” photos that One Six will post on their Facebook page, everyone will find out where the shoot took place soon enough!!! Yes, this means you should become a fan of One Six Photography on Facebook. But even if you don’t, I’m sure I will post some pics on the blog as soon as I can…but you should still be a fan, cause they rock.

Around 3pm, we headed to location #2. This portion of our session actually went faster than I expected. And for some reason, I was kind of antsy to get to our final location. The concept of this part of the shoot though is probably my favorite. I just think it’s so us. If you know us, you will NOT be at all surprised by these pictures – and I think you will get a kick out of them. The thing that I like, also, is that some of the pictures taken have an especially special meaning.

Finally, we headed to our third and final location in rush hour traffic (which actually wasn’t too bad). This concept, also, is really special to me. I think the pictures from this final location were some of the most fun. The location itself is so cool. I am really eager to see what the finished product looks like! We even added a special prop that I hope really adds to the look and feel we were going for.

Overall, the day was amazing. We had beautiful sunshine (although sometimes uncooperative wind). I didn’t realize how tiring it was to get your picture taken all day! But I guess it’s good training for the wedding. At the end of the day Caroline and Matt had a total of 994 pictures. That is not a typo – nine hundred and ninety-four, you read correctly. I’m sure some of them I’m making goofy faces in; and I think it’d be funny to place bets on how many of them are of us kissing (my guess? 437).

I am going to fall asleep blogging (which is a great way to end the day), so I will probably continue my crazy monologue in a few days when (hopefully) I may have some pictures to share. And regardless of whether the sneak peeks are ready this weekend or next (it is holiday weekend, after all!), I will update everyone on my crazed exasperation at trying to find the perfect wedding invitations. If you are recently free on spring break, enjoy your vacation! If you are still a slave to work through Friday afternoon (as I am), you can enjoy your daily grind with a Tomboy Bride update soon enough!
